With the award of the Heritage Trust Fund Grant, the old Harper Standpipe Water Tower is getting a face lift of sorts. Work started on the tower at the end of May. So far, the tower has been sandblasted to remove old paint and debris. The application of Carbon Fiber Strapping was started this week. The strapping is being applied to strengthen the base of the tower. The steel rods will be removed as the strapping is applied.
Once the strapping is in place and has cured, a layer of epoxy will be applied for a fresh new look! The City is currently taking bids to give the red roof and the near-famous fish that sits atop a fresh coat of red paint!
The City plans to complete the renovation with a shiny new Historical Marker that will be placed at the base of the tower giving passer-by's and locals some history of the historic tower.
